Engine Research Project

The purpose of this research was to investigate ways to reduce hydrocarbons, particulates, Nano-particles, and other harmful fuels emitted from small engines. These toxins have been found to cause cancer, asthma, and other respiratory diseases. In a recent study, “Fuel-Independent Particulate Emissions in an SIDI Engine”, Maier and colleagues concluded varying fuel types have have no effect on emissions.

So if A/F ratios and fuel type have no affect on these harmful exhausts then what does? Well maybe the injection angle and plume length within the combustion chamber? To collect data a polycarbonate replica was fabricated to record high speed data for further analysis.
